15 Sunday in ordinary time ‘b’

Anointing of the sick is a very powerful sacrament, but somehow is not very appreciated by Catholics. Not sure why. Maybe because for many years we had a wrong understanding of that sacrament and we thought that this sacrament is only offered for those immanently dying. How wrong! All of the seven sacraments that we have are meant for the living; there are no sacraments for the dead. Anyone who feels they need a healing of the body and soul can and should receive this sacrament, especially anyone who is facing surgery or any physical illness. They should receive the anointing. This is one of the sacraments that can be received many times during our lifetime. And no, it’s not for the dying only. It is for all those who need Christ’s healing -- and don’t we all? “The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.”
