I may be wrong, but I am thinking that perhaps Jesus wanted others to know about the miracle He just performed. He cured the deaf and mute man and then asked those who witnessed it to not tell anyone what they saw. Jesus knows the minds and hearts of the people, and so He knew that if He told them to go and proclaim about Him, they would not be so excited. But when He told them -- please keep it a secret, don’t tell anyone -- they just went out and proclaimed it everywhere. Reverse psychology! “He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it.” Today we are not only invited but urged to go and proclaim about Jesus and His miracles. We are called to let people know about Him. Do we do that? Maybe because we are called to do that, we are not so excited; perhaps if we were told to keep it a secret, we would be talking about Jesus more. Interesting.
