29 Sunday in ordinary time ‘b’

It seems to me that Jesus is trying to tell us today that if you want to be great in heaven, you must be a servant here. That’s how it works. The sons of Zebedee, James and John, come to Jesus with a good request. They ask to be with Jesus in His Kingdom, one on the right, the other on the left of Him. Maybe they went a little bit too far, asking Jesus to be right next to Him, but other than that, their request makes sense because they wanted to be in Jesus’s Kingdom. Shouldn’t that be our request too, or our prayer? To get into God’s Kingdom? Jesus is very clear and says that there is only one way to get there -- we need to be humble and servants to others. If you want to be great in God’s Kingdom, then here, in this life, you need to be humble toward others, love them, help them, and pray for them.
