3 Sunday of Advent ‘c’

What should we do? How should we live? How to get prepared for the coming of the Lord? That is exactly what people were asking John the Baptist, and this is exactly what we are asking today. We all want to be ready for Christ’s coming, and we all want to be saved. So, what should we do? He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise. Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do? Stop collecting more than what is prescribed. Soldiers also asked him, and what is it that we should do? Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages.” John had advice for each one of us. We just need to listen and then follow his advice. And what struck me about John’s instructions is that he is clear -- that we need to think about and care for other people. We need to love God and neighbor, not only God.
