Is the end of the world near? Is it coming anytime soon? Quite often someone might say to me, and maybe to you, something like: this world is coming to an end, look what’s happening to this generation -- people do whatever they want, they live immoral lives, and then there’s climate change, plus all the wars and hatred. Surely the end is near. But is it? Maybe it is or maybe not yet. Jesus, however, tells us today that those kinds of signs can accompany His second coming at the end of times: “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.” If you keep faith and if you are prepared, there is nothing to be terrified of. “You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.” Again, it is not about how, nor when: it is about being prepared. How? Jesus never said that we need to be perfect, without sins nor mistakes. But we need constantly to admit our sinfulness and ask for God’s mercy and forgiveness. If you live like that, then not even a hair on your head will be destroyed.
