It is almost impossible to go through this life without working at some job, without earning money, paying bills, buying food or clothes and many other necessary things. This is how this world is constructed and has always been. Some of us are luckier in life or more successful and have better jobs, bigger houses, and more money. Some of us struggle to pay the bills and buy necessary food. But all of us must take care of ourselves and our families. Yet, no matter what we do or how hard we work, one day we will leave this world. That’s why today Jesus reminds us: “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” And the Lord does not mean that we were not supposed to stop working and stop caring about our earthly food. Rather, Jesus reminds us that it is as important - or even more important - to work for that food that will guarantee us life eternal, life in Heaven, life that never ends. Sadly, many Catholics are more concerned about their careers, positions, money -- about those things that perish, forgetting about the Eucharist, the food that will last forever.
