Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

We all want to grow in our relationships with God. We want to deepen our love for Him and become better and better people. Our goal is to go one day to Heaven. We also know that we need to make many sacrifices in this life in order to be saved. However, many times we forget that our salvation depends on God. In the end, He makes that decision. And as a result, some of us become very scrupulous in what we do, carefully trying to avoid any occasion to sin, not to miss any prayers, not to skip any Masses because otherwise we would be afraid that God would somehow punish us for this. In other words, some people rely only on their own abilities forgetting that in order to grow in our spirituality, we must cooperate with God and with His grace. We can’t do it on our own and we must allow God to do His part. Just like in Jesus’ parable: “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how.” We must take care of our soul; we must plant good seeds. However, we cannot become obsessed with trying to do everything on our own. There are times that we need to relax and allow God to take it from us and to turn it into something more beautiful.
