Feast of Saint Stephen, first martyr
Sometimes I watch the History channel. They have a variety of series, but often they have a show about things that can’t be explained, like ghost stories, or aliens that come to our planet to destroy us. There are many horror movies about those who come back from the grave to hurt us, and many other fiction horror stories. There are some who are fooled by stories like these and believe that they are being watched or maybe even attacked by some imaginary creatures. I am certain that nothing like that would happen to us. However, we need to be aware of those humans that may persecute us for our faith, for our Christianity. That’s why Jesus is warning us today: “Beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans.” Jesus never said: beware of the dead, beware of the ghosts, nor beware of aliens. No! But he warned us that because of His name, others may not always accept us, but that should not come as a surprise.
