Philip asked Jesus: “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” I always wonder what did Philip actually want to see -- what does God look like externally? Or perhaps Philip wanted to have a proof of God’s existence? Maybe. But Jesus said: “whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” So, does that mean that God looks like Jesus? That would make sense since Jesus is God, right? However, what makes more sense to me is that our God is like Jesus in His relationship to us. We should not worry about His external looks, but we should be thankful that He loves us unconditionally like Jesus does, He forgives us our sins just like Jesus does, He is our Good Shepherd, He is the Bread of Life, He even gave up His life for us. No, we don’t need to know what God looks like. All we need to know is -- His love for us and that we need to spread the same love to others.
