Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, the Apostles

Even Jesus prayed to His Father before making an important decision. Before Jesus chose His twelve closest friends, His disciples, those who would continue His mission of proclaiming the Kingdom of God, He wanted to consult or ask God - who from those who follow Him would be the best. So, we read that before Jesus chose His disciples “He went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.” But for me the most interesting aspect of Jesus’ decision was that He chose “Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.” Why did Jesus call Judas? Why, when He prayed to God, didn’t God warn Him and say - stay away from that person, He will betray you? I think there is an important lesson for us here. Sometimes when we pray, we expect God to give us what we want. Perhaps you are disappointed when He does not. But God always listens to our prayers. But at times instead of just providing us with what we want, He wants to challenge us. Sometimes God allows those challenges and obstacles to come our way because they will make us stronger. Judas happened to be that obstacle in Jesus’ mission, even when Jesus prayed to God for good and holy Apostles. God does not always remove the difficulties from our lives, even if we ask Him for that. Instead, He wants us to keep strong faith, that with Him we can overcome all the difficulties of this life.
