Feast of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist

After John heard that Jesus’s tomb was empty, he got there first. But he wasn’t sure what to do. John was confused and afraid. He needed someone who would accompany him in walking into that scary empty tomb. That’s why when Simon Peter arrived, John was able to walk into the empty tomb and then we read “and he saw and believed.” We all become like John from the gospel today. In moments of grief, we become sad, scared, and confused. That’s why we all need a friend who will accompany us in walking into the tomb. A friend who would be with us in that moment of sadness and help us to understand that the tomb of a loved one will also be empty one day, and that after death, there is resurrection.
