On this feast day of the Mother of all churches, the Lateran Basilica, we are reminded to take good care of our churches, of our places of worship. It is heart breaking that so many churches are being closed because people have stopped going to church and stopped supporting their parishes. Most of us are still very blessed living in a place where we have an easy access to the church, to the priests, and to the sacraments. We can’t take it for granted because there are people in this world that don’t have any church to go to, or they risk their lives for practicing their faith and receiving the Eucharist. This feast day is a reminder to us to be thankful for our places of worship and that it is up to us to make them alive. When Jesus saw that they had made of a holy temple a marketplace, He said with anger: “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace. His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me.”
