Sometimes I have a person who comes to confession and after confessing the sins makes this kind of prediction: Father, I don’t think God would ever forgive me this terrible sin I have committed. I think many times we wrongly presume this because of our sins. We say: God gets angry, He won’t forgive, or even worse -- He will punish us for what we have done wrong. I am not sure about you, but I would rather have a different image of my God – a loving, caring, and forgiving God even when I remain unfaithful to Him. Yes, I should do everything I can to fight any temptation and to live according to God’s will. However, there are times when I fail. And after I fail, I will hope for God’s love and forgiveness. “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” God wants us to be saved. That’s why He gave us His only Son, not to punish us.
