“When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” Mary and Joseph didn’t have to do that; Jesus is God, Mary and Joseph are holy, perfect, so they didn’t need to be purified. Today we celebrate the feast day of the Holy Family from Nazareth of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. We learn from them today that we should follow the law of our church. With some things, we may disagree, or we may argue with the pastor, bishop, or even with the pope. However, without the structures, without the leaders, without laws and traditions in our church, our communities would fall apart. The Holy Family from Nazareth didn’t have to follow this earthly law since they were above it, but they are teaching all of us that being part of the community means also following the law.
