When I was a child, I was often reminded by other people of things like - listen to your mother, listen to your father, listen to the elders, listen to your grandparents, or listen to your teachers. I didn’t like that back then since I took it not as wise advice but more as if I were being scolded for doing something wrong. Today I now understand that I was often reminded to listen to others because they cared for me, for my safety, and they wanted me to be successful in life. Now, I know that by being obedient and by listening to those who are more mature and more experienced, I would avoid the mistake they may have made. Also, I will learn more from them, gain more wisdom, and be a better person. Guess what. Today on this feast of the Transfiguration, God is giving all of us the same advice. When Jesus was transfigured, a voice came from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Why is God telling us to listen to His Son? For the same reason you and I were reminded to listen to our parents, i.e., because Jesus always wants what’s best for us. He wants us to be safe, He wants us to be successful, He loves us and wants to offer us a happy life forever. You will get much advice from people, you will hear many voices, but always remember to listen to the one that comes from Jesus - this is the one and only voice that would never deceive you.
