Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

This gospel reading for today is filled with joy. Both Mary and her cousin Elizabeth are filled with the joy of becoming mothers. More than that, they are happy because of the presence of the Lord who came to them as He promised. Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.” I wish we would share the same joy whenever we are blessed with the presence of the Lord. He is not coming to us in the same way and form as He came to Mary, but He comes to us in many other ways today, but especially in the Holy Eucharist which we receive during Mass. Whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist, we should express the same joy which filled the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary and repeat after her: “my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.”
