Fifth Sunday of Lent ‘a’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

And Jesus wept. So, the Jews said, See how he loved him.” Why would Jesus weep over Lazarus when He knew that He would raise His friend from death. Just a few moments later, Lazarus did come out from that tomb. So, why did Jesus weep? Yes, He loved Lazarus, and He missed Him, but I think this is not the complete reason. I think Jesus weeps not because we all will die physically, but He wept realizing what sin does to us. When we sin, we die spiritually. Sin puts us into that dark tomb. Some don’t ever want to come out from that tomb. “Jesus wept. So, the Jews said, See how he loved him.” Jesus weeps each time when you and I sin, not because He is angry, but because He loves us and knows what sin does to us. Luckily, we can always follow His call ‘come out!’ I will help you, I will forgive you, I will make you alive again. Just like Lazarus, we need to listen to the voice of Jesus and come out from our tombs.
