We all know this gospel reading quite well, and we remember when Jesus said that He is a Shepherd and “he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” Obviously, Christ is a Good Shepherd. However, the question is if you are His sheep? Because what Jesus clearly says is that the sheep recognize His voice, follow Him, trust Him. So, it is not enough to admit that we are blessed with having a God who is our Good Shepherd. More than that -- we need to get to know Him in order to follow, to recognize, and to trust in His words. The sheep would not follow a stranger, someone that is not familiar to them, that they don’t know. They will only follow the shepherd they know well. We all need to pray for an increase of faith, knowledge, love, and trust in our Good Shepherd, so we will be certain that He cares for us and wants only what’s best for us.
