Easter Sunday is already behind us. We had beautiful celebrations, and I was amazed with the number of people that came to church to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus; it was heartwarming. But in a couple days, we will celebrate Second Sunday of Easter. I think that there will be less people with us in our churches. Why? Why only Easter? Isn’t it the case that on each Sunday we celebrate the resurrection? Our churches should be as filled each Sunday as they are on Easter. Unfortunately, for many, Easter was only an occasion to get nicely dressed, to visit with family and friends, and to go to church. However, after that joyous day, they go back to their routines, to the old life, life before Easter. Do they really believe? Isn’t that exactly what happened to Jesus’ disciples -- they went back to their ordinary lives, lives before they met Jesus? Did they forget all that had happened? Did they lose hope and faith? “Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing. They said to him, “We also will come with you.” We can’t simply go back, but we must announce to this broken world that Christ is Risen, and that there is no more death, but eternal life.
