If you married in the Catholic church, do you still remember the vows you made to your spouse? “I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.” Until death, the rest of your lives. Even if it turns out to be very hard, and as you well know, there are times that being together and loving each other may become very difficult, close to impossible. And you may say that the priest is the last person to tell you that, right? The priest has no idea what marriage looks like. And you are right, we don’t. But today, it is Jesus reminding us how important those vows are. “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.” What I understand Jesus saying is that the husband and wife should do anything in order to fulfill those vows they made on their wedding day. Because to God that union between wife and husband is a special and sacred vocation. Unfortunately, we all know, there are times that being together is impossible. Today let’s pray for all married couples, that God bless them with love and respect for each other.
