It seems to me that it is much easier to repeat things that others say instead of sharing my own opinion about an issue. Jesus in the Gospel today is asking his friends: “what do people say about me?” and all of them were ready to give Him an answer to that question. But when He asked them: how about you? “What do you say that I am?”, only Peter had an answer, the best answer. So, Jesus is asking again, not His disciples but you and me, who am I to you? And He doesn’t want to hear what others say about Him, even what the Church teaches about Him, or what the preacher tells us about Him, but you; who is Jesus to you?
