This time of the year, when we are approaching the end of the liturgical year, we often hear in the Gospel readings about the end of this world. But Jesus doesn’t want to scare us by presenting all those terrible things that may occur along with the end of time. But He wants us to be aware, to be alert and ready. Today, He tells us that there will be many people that won’t care about those warnings, and instead of repenting and living a good Christian life, they will continue to live sinfully, taking advantage of others and of this world. “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.” We need to worry rather about eternal life than about this life on the earth. Let us take those warning seriously and make sure to be prepared for that moment when the end will come.
