Friday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

Jesus said: “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” I find this so true. Think about it and look around. Look at those who are spending all kinds of resources and money just to look younger and to expand their life span here. There are some people, very rich people, who would pay enormous amounts of money for plastic surgeries, and if they could only live a few years longer, they would pay for that too. These are the people that don’t believe in life eternal and would do anything to stay on this earth as long as possible. Jesus is telling them today: “whoever wishes to save his life will lose it.” Will lose it simply because they only focus on things of this world, forgetting about God and forgetting that physical death is inevitable. We Christians should always focus on the life to come, life after this journey in this world. We must live with that understanding, that we need to take advantage of this life in order to gain life eternal. “But whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
