Friday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

You know, there is something that makes me always laugh reading the story from the gospel for today. Some people brought to Jesus a deaf man who had a speech impediment, to lay His hands on him and heal him. Jesus granted them their request; however, he asked them for something in exchange. “He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it.” So, here is what is kind of humorous for me -- perhaps Jesus should have proclaimed another miracle and closed their mouths so they would have to follow His orders. There are times that we need to speak, but there also are times when we should remain quiet and keep certain things to ourselves. Sometimes we like to gossip, go around and share with other people things that are not even confirmed, causing damage to another person’s name. I think we need to ask Jesus to help us to recognize when He wants us to speak and when we should remain silent and keep things to ourselves.
