Today we read that “they tried to arrest him (Jesus), but no one laid a hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.” Jesus’ hour had not yet come. This sentence from the gospel today makes me realize that God has a plan for each one of us. You and I may plan many things in life, we can make plans for our future, yet the final word belongs to God. Let me give you an example - quite often I go and visit people who are old or very sick, people who know that their time to live in this world is getting close. And many times, they would tell me that they would like to speed up this time. They tell me that they are tired of being dependent on others and so they ask: Father, why does God still keep me here; I am ready to go home now. Jesus died at the appointed time and at the appointed hour. Many people wanted to see Him dead before that, but His mission was fulfilled on God’s time, and at God’s appointed hour. We may have plans regarding our lives and the lives of our close loved ones. We may have our own wishes, but in the end we must trust in God’s providence and believe that He has His own plans for you and me at the appointed hour.
