“Therefore, I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” This is a very serious warning. Jesus calls us to produce fruit, to grow, to deepen our relationship with God, and foster better relationship with other people. We can’t simply presume that only because we are baptized Christians that the Kingdom of God automatically belongs to us. No, it does not work that way. We need to produce fruit in order to be saved. The chief priests and the elders of the people got very angry with Jesus since He proclaimed that warning to them. They thought that since they belonged to the chosen nation and that they were leaders in their religion, this would guarantee them the Kingdom of God. This is not enough, Jesus said, you still need to love God and your neighbor; you need to grow, produce fruit by prayer and action. “I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” Now, you know what to do to reach the Kingdom.
