Friday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Sometimes we are making excuses to justify our bad actions. Let’s say that someone cheated on his taxes because he or she thinks that others do that also, or because the government takes too much from us. Or someone decides not to attend Sunday Mass because he or she doesn’t like the priest at that parish, or the music is not good enough. We all make all kinds of excuses in life. We know that when we act, sometimes the action is wrong or not fair, or some of our actions are sinful. But everybody does it, we often think. Or I will go to confession and God will forgive me. Yes, He will. Yet we should always be honest with God and with ourselves. It is like with those Pharisees who wanted to test Jesus. “They approached him and asked, ‘Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?’ They were testing him. He said to them in reply, ‘What did Moses command you?’ They replied, ‘Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her.’” Whenever you sin, try not to make any excuses, but approach God with humility and honesty and ask for His forgiveness. He knows exactly why you have sinned.
