Friday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

"You are not far from the Kingdom of God." Those are probably the most beautiful words that you can hear form the Lord. Isn’t the Kingdom of God our ultimate destination, our home, our paradise? All we do here, all our life, should lead us to that Kingdom of eternal peace and happiness - the Kingdom of God, the House of God. That scribe from the gospel reading today was so privileged to hear those reassuring words of Jesus: "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." Why? Because he knew the most important commandments ever given to us humans – first, to love God above everything else, and then to love another person, our neighbor as ourselves. However, what surprised me is the fact that Jesus said: you are not far from the Kingdom, yet He didn’t say- you have reached the Kingdom. Because it is one thing to know the commandments and memorize them and another is to implement them in our lives. If we only know Jesus’ teachings, then we are not far from the Kingdom. But if we know His teaching and follow it faithfully, then that Kingdom is ours.
