Some people believed that John the Baptist was the promised Messiah. But John had to strongly remind them that he was only the one who prepared people for the true Messiah. Today Jesus says concerning John the Baptist that “he was a burning and shining lamp.” He was that lamp that enables people to see and prepare. Perhaps you are attracted by the wonderful preaching of one or another priest or deacon. Perhaps you even travel long distances to hear that famous preacher giving talks. Or you find wonderful homilies on the Internet, nothing wrong with that. However, we need to remember that all those great preachers are only tools that help us to see, to prepare, and to focus on the true Messiah. John the Baptist never took any credit and was always pointing to Jesus. We need to look at all of those who preach about Jesus in the same way.
