Jesus continues telling us how important it is to eat His Body and drink His Blood, because this food will give us eternal life. Why? Because by eating the Body of Christ we become more like Him, we become a better and holier people. The Eucharist is a remedy for a better life and for making us better people. Think about it this way -- if you have a cold or flu, and you want to get better, you will look for a medicine that will bring healing and comfort. In a similar way, we need to heal our souls, we need a medicine that will make it better and holier. Jesus Christ offers us His Body to make us whole, to heal us, to forgive us, and to make us able to forgive others. We eat His Body, we gain strength and holiness, and then we are offered eternal life. Jesus says: “Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him.” So, this is a food that not only gives us life, but also helps us become more like Christ.
