Friday of the Twenty Eighth Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

Jesus said: “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more. I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one.” The biggest tragedy that can happen to us is losing our life. When a loved one dies, we grieve and we cry, and we feel sorry for her or him. However, Jesus is telling us that losing this life is not as tragic as being condemned for eternity. Those words of Jesus are encouraging words addressed to His disciples who will be martyred for the Lord. He tells them -- don’t be scared, they will kill you, but after that they can’t do anything to you. But make sure to live your live well, so then you will be rewarded and will receive eternal life in heaven. Your live doesn’t end here, but it will continue beyond this world. Do you want to be happy forever?
