There are times (or places) when we don’t want to be recognized as people of faith. Perhaps you work in a very secular environment, and you are afraid that you will be laughed at or rejected by your coworkers. Maybe you are the only one in your family who is actually practicing the faith, and other members of your family make fun of you at times. Believe me, I know that feeling. Even I, at times, am afraid to admit in front of a stranger that I am a Catholic priest. And then I think about those courageous Christians who are being persecuted or killed for their faith, like the holy Korean martyrs whose feast day we have today. Would I have enough courage to proclaim Christ even in danger of death? We read today in the gospel that “Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.” This is our mission now - to proclaim and to bring God to others. Most of us won’t be killed for this, but do we still have enough courage to do that? To do that in our families, schools, places of work?
