Friday of the Twenty Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

“Jesus told his disciples a parable: Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?” This is so obvious -- a blind person can’t guide another blind person. Analogically, we can continue with asking: can a thief tell another that stealing is a sin? or can someone who lives an immoral life teach others about morality? or can the one who never prays tell others how important the prayer is? or can the one who cheats teach that the cheating is wrong? See, there are countless examples like that. Jesus is reminding us today that in order to correct others, we ourselves need to live a good and exemplary life. “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.”
