“Who are you to tell me that”- I am sure you hear that expression from time to time, or, you said that before? Some time ago, we had a wedding in our church, there were many guests coming to celebrate. I was also in the church getting ready, although I didn’t wear my collar. At one point I noticed a person carrying an open can of soda that she was bringing to the church. So, politely I asked her not to bring that drink to the church, and she asked me- and who are you? I said, I am a priest that will be officiating this wedding. She was a little bit surprised, and apologized and took that drink outside. After Jesus drove out all those money changers from the holy temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders approached Him and asked: "By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do them?” It is exactly like saying- and who are you to tell us what to do? See, sometimes we react in a similar way, when someone else corrects us, or tells us that what we are doing is wrong. Perhaps they do that not to humiliate us, but because they care for us. Jesus is alive, He is present among us, and He uses different people and situations to help us get better and holier people. Maybe He uses that particular person to help you with something.
