“Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother.’” So, where was everybody else? Where were Jesus’ friends, where were His disciples and all those who declared that would never abandon Him? They got scared, they ran away, they abandoned the Lord when He needed them the most. Aren’t we like them sometimes? Especially when during peaceful prayer, we make declarations that we would never abandon God. But then when tribulations come our way, when we face some difficult or uncertain moments in our lives, we forget about Him or even show our disappointment that He was not there to help us. Or when others criticize or speak badly about our religion and our church, but we are too afraid to testify to our faith. It happened to the disciples, and it happens to us too. We get scared at times, we may abandon Christ by our sins and bad choices, but He will forgive us, just like He forgave His friends.
