If you truly love someone, you only want what is best for that person. You also want to be close to that person, spend time together as much as possible. So, shouldn’t it be the same with loving our God? The first and greatest commandment is to love God; so how much do you love Him? If He is constantly on your mind when you feel His presence all the time, when you can’t wait to receive Him in the Eucharist, when you look forward to being with Him in prayer - then you truly love Him. However, if you feel that the prayers you say, or Mass you attend are only obligations, then there is no true love for God. In the gospel reading for today, we read that Jesus as a young boy was left behind by His parents. They found Him in the temple. Jesus has great love for God, that’s why He didn’t go anywhere else, but spent time with His Father in the temple. “’Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?’ But they did not understand what he said to them.”
