Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Blessed Virgin Mary didn’t write any Gospels. We also don’t know if she even said much about Jesus and her family. It seems to me that she was a very private person, sharing with others only what needed to be shared. At the end of the Gospel reading today, we hear that Mary “kept all these things in her heart.” Today on the memorial of Immaculate Heart of Mary, we learn from the Mother of God that there are things that we also should keep to ourselves, keep them in our heart. Not everything we know about others needs to be passed on, revealed, or talked about. And I think it is a challenge to keep certain things just to ourselves, since it is so much easier just to talk, gossip, and spread all the information we know -- wanting to be the first to share the particular news. Mary reminds us today that it would be better if we keep some things only for ourselves, keep them in our heart.
