It is not about how much we give; it is about sacrifice. There are very wealthy people in this world who donate a large portion of their money to different charities, and that is wonderful. However, for many of them, that gesture is not a big sacrifice, since they still have enough money to live luxuriously. Today Jesus looks at the poor widow who made a very generous offering for the temple. No, she didn’t give very much, but for her, that was everything. A great sacrifice she made. Perhaps you should think about your offerings to your own church, and about the donations you make to support other charitable organizations. Is it a sacrifice for you, or do you just give what you have extra? Same with our good deeds towards others: when you help another person, is this a sacrifice for you, or did you just want to fill up some free time that you had? “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”
