“Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?” Obviously, Judas didn’t care about the poor, but he was very greedy and couldn’t stand that that pricey oil was being ‘wasted’ by anointing Jesus’ feet. Mary offered the Lord the most precious thing she had. For Jesus she was able to do everything. She is a model of the ministry, offering all she had in order to serve the Lord. I often think about myself and about my priestly vocation and ask myself -- Am I able to offer all I have in order to serve God and His people, or am I too greedy and want to keep certain things to myself? And I look at those who, instead of ministering in Christ’s church, seek their own gain, comfort, prestige, or popularity. Mary, Lazarus’ sister, teaches us that there are no limits to serving the Lord.
