Monday of the 1 week of Advent (Feast of St. Andrew) ‘b’
What did Jesus look like when He called His first disciples? What was His face like? What did voice sound like? What were His gestures? I always wonder about these questions when I read this Gospel passage. There must have been something so very powerful in Jesus that when He tells Simon and Andrew: “come after me, and I will make you fishers of men,” they immediately leave everything behind and follow Him. Every normal human being would think twice before following a stranger and leaving literally everything behind, including home, job, family, friends and the village they grew up in. That’s why I think that there must have been something extraordinary, something so powerful in Jesus’ person and in His call that these people simply trusted without any hesitation and followed Him. Am I able to trust Jesus and follow Him no matter the cost?
