A Centurion, a rich and powerful man, a man who could probably afford many slaves and workers, is worried about one of his slaves who is dying. Unthinkable! That’s why Jesus praises him for his great faith and for his concern of wellbeing for his slaves. Seems like a great man; he was able to do anything in order to help his people. Who wouldn’t like to have a master like that? This even tells me that he must have taken very good care of his slaves and treated them with respect and love. Today we need to pause for a moment and think about how we treat others, especially those who are on the margin of our society -- the poor, the abandoned, sick, the immigrants. Do we care for them at all, do we pray for them, do we help them? “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”
