Monday of the 27 week in ordinary time (St. Francis of Assisi)

“Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Haven’t you ever asked a similar question? What to do to be in heaven, what to do to be saved, how to live to arrive into eternal life? I sometimes wonder if I do enough in my life to inherit eternal life. I try to live a good life, I pray, I try to avoid occasions of sin. I am a baptized practicing Catholic who receives the holy sacraments. But is that enough? Would that get me an access to eternal life in heaven? “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Just love God and love your neighbor, so easy, so simple, only those two things. Excellent! But then I find out that even though that sounds so simple and easy, but in reality it is not. I often forget about these simple commandments, when I sin against my God, and when I forget to love and respect others, especially when they have different opinions, different beliefs, different opinions on politics, and lately on this pandemic. It is so easy to forget about loving my neighbor at times. “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
