They thought they were very clever. They brought to Jesus a woman who was caught committing the sin of adultery. The law was very clear -- she must be stoned to death. So, what would Jesus say? Would He approve the killing of a person, which would be totally against His teachings, or would He let her go free and break the law? They obviously didn’t care about the sinful woman. They didn’t care about the law. All they wanted was to trap Jesus. But Jesus didn’t fall into their games. He was above all that and wisely He asked them: “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” You know what happened later; they all left, since there was no one in that crowd who had not committed any sins. How easy it is for us to judge others. How easy it is to think that we are better -- that we are better Catholics, better husbands, better wives, better children, better citizens, and so on. However, today Jesus reminds us that only God can judge because only He is without sin. For the rest of us sinners, we better approach God with humility and ask Him for pardon for ourselves. We can’t judge others; let us leave it to our merciful God. “Has no one condemned you?” She replied, ‘No one, sir.’ Then Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.’”
