Monday of the Second Week of Easter ‘a’

The sacrament of Baptism is the very first sacrament that a Christian receives. More than that, nobody can’t receive any other sacraments without baptism. That’s why before first Holy Communion, before confirmation, before marriage, before priesthood ordination a person must provide the proof of their baptism. But more importantly, the sacrament of baptism wipes away our sins, our original sin, and makes us children of God and members of God’s family. Even Jesus received the sacrament of baptism by John, just to show us how important it is. In that sense Jesus tells Nicodemus today, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” We have received that sacrament, and during Easter we renewed it. Being Christian means being born again, becoming a new person, a new creation, a better person. We all need to be reborn again, not only through the sacrament of baptism, but through our good and holy lives.
