Monday of the Second Week of Lent ‘b’

Jesus said to his disciples: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Are you, am I merciful as my Father in Heaven is merciful? Just think about it this way -- you go to confession, maybe once a year or more, but how many times do you confess the same sins? Most of us do it again and again. Then when after we confess our sins, we beg God for His mercy promising that we will ‘avoid any occasion to sin’. However, most of us remain unfaithful to those declarations and then commit the same sins again and again. We are blessed that we have a God that is ALWAYS merciful and forgiving, even though we can’t keep the promises we made. So, now think again about those words of Jesus from the beginning of today’s gospel reading: “be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Am I merciful towards others, am I able to forgive even if someone repeatedly hurts me, am I merciful as my Father always is towards me?
