Monday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

I enjoy watching my nieces and nephews grow up. From a tiny, newborn baby they quickly become larger, stronger, more and more independent until they become adults. I see the children in our Catholic school that come to the preschool or first grade and just a few years later they mature and are ready to graduate. It is like with that mustard seed in Jesus’ parable -- that seed can’t just remain as it is -- it needs to be planted, it needs to grow, mature, and become a large bush “and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.” But most importantly, this is also true with our spiritual life, with our faith. It can’t just remain the same. Our faith needs to grow, needs to mature, so one day we can pass it on to others, so they can enjoy it as we do. The seed of faith that was planted in your heart on the day of your baptism must grow.
