Monday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

Too many times, we try to fight off temptations but end up sinning on our own. We tend to think that we are strong enough to win that battle. I must admit that I do the same, forgetting that in order to win any battle with the evil one, I need God’s help and God’s strength. I can’t do it on my own; I am simply too weak. Perhaps you also struggle with some kind of addiction, or a sin that you commit repeatedly, and then you think: this is the last time, tomorrow I am starting as a new person, with a new strength. I will prove to myself and everybody else that I am strong enough. But then, you forget about your prayer, asking God for help. Yes, we need to humbly admit that without prayer, without God, we can’t win the battle with temptation. That’s why Jesus reminded his disciples today when they asked Him: “Why could we not drive the spirit out? He said to them: This kind can only come out through prayer.” If there is something you struggle with in this life, don’t forget to pray and ask God for help.
