There is so much happening in today’s gospel reading - so much to reflect on. However, there is one little thing that caught my attention. After the disciples were unable to free a young boy from possession by a mute spirit, they brought him to Jesus. Then the father of the young boy begged Jesus for a miracle. “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us,” he said. Jesus then said: “If you can!’ Everything is possible to one who has faith.” “Then the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe, help my unbelief!” And this humble response of that father is what shocked me. “Help my unbelief!” What a humble and honest prayer. I must admit that quite often I question my faith. I do have doubts, especially in the moments of crisis. I am telling myself that I am a person of faith, that I do believe in Jesus and everything He said, that I believe that He is present in the most Holy Eucharist. But I know that somewhere deep in my heart I still have doubts. Today I am learning that I too must keep asking Jesus to increase my faith. Jesus, I try to believe, but please help my unbelief!
