“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.” Jesus knew that it wouldn’t be easy for His disciples to be the first Christians and witnesses to the world, that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God, who was rejected by many. From now on, the disciples would face persecution, rejection, and eventually would die for their faith. That’s why Jesus made that promise to them- He is promising them that after all the trials and difficulties they experience in this world, they will experience joy in heaven that will never end. In the same way, Jesus makes that promise to you and me today. He tells you -- I know your pain, I know your grief, I know your sadness, I know your loneliness. But don’t worry because I promise you a great reward, not here, but in heaven.
