Jesus said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” Jesus knew that the crowd that he had fed were looking for Him, not because they believed that He was the Son of God, but because they knew that the Man with such power can make them rich, make them healthy, make them popular. They knew that He could do anything He wished. There are times that we have a similar understanding of God -- we just ask Him to grant us whatever we wish for. And we too are hungry for many things in this life -- money, pleasure, fame, beauty, health, happiness. But Jesus reminds us that, more than anything in life, we should hunger for eternal life. We can’t only approach God in times of trouble and need. We should make sure He is always present in our lives in good times and in bad. We need to love Him and keep asking for that food that endures for eternal life.
